Lunchtime Lecture: How to Prepare for the Arrival of a Sibling and Manage Sibling Rivalry |
How to Prepare for the Arrival of a Sibling & Manage Sibling Rivalry
with Stacy Kim, Ph.D.
Monday, November 29 | 12:30 - 2pm
The arrival of a new baby sister or brother can completely turn the world of young toddlers and preschoolers upside down. You want the best for all of your children, but you're also exhausted from sleep deprivation. How do you manage?
Join Stacy S. Kim, Ph.D. at the Prenatal Yoga Center to learn all you need to know to get prepared for the arrival of a new sibling and to foster healthy relationships among siblings--right from the start.
In this interactive workshop, Stacy will:
* Summarize the latest research so that you have all the tools you need to problem-solve
* Answer specific questions so that you walk away with solutions best suited for your family situation
Come learn about:
* Preparations that worked for other families
* Typical reactions you might expect from your older child when the baby arrives (and when to start worrying)
* How best to respond to problems that might arise (learn what works and what doesn't)
* How to start out right and foster healthy relationships between siblings
* The benefits of having siblings on child development
* How you can develop stronger bonds with both/all your children
Stacy S. Kim, Ph.D. is a social science researcher and work-family
coach. After spending over 10 years conducting research on early
childhood care and education and work-family conflict at Columbia
University as well as the Families and Work Institute, Stacy realized that research reports do very little to help busy parents. She now uses her knowledge and experience to coach parents and enable them to find solutions that work best for their own individual families. She does this by:
* Filtering through the vast amounts of parenting information
* Listening and understanding what parents unique needs are
* Helping parents to apply solutions that are best suited for them
As a result, parents ...
* Are better able to manage their work and family lives
* Are more confident about their own parenting
* Find time for themselves
* Live more fulfilling lives
* Pursue life-long goals and dreams
