Reporting on a successful birth of my postdate baby!
I decided to try a membrane sweep and it immediately triggered labor. I'd had two membrane sweeps with the pregnancy already, so the OB was "very vigorous" in this third and final one. It sure did the trick! Braxton-Hicks contractions 'evolved' into labor contractions over the course of three hours as I hiked in Central Park (to put pressure on the cervix). I labored at home with the help of a doula for 13 hours and arrived at the hospital 9 cm dilated! I gave birth 5 hours later, with the help of an epidural, to an 8 lb 11 oz baby boy born at 41 weeks.
