Deb - yoga with ovarian hyperstimulation

hello,

i have a mild case of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. i have been asked by my doctor to suspend all physical actitvities for the time being as I'm still waiting to confirm whether i am pregnant or not.

if i am pregnant, can i begin my yoga practise again with a limited asana and pranayama. i have been practising on and off for several years in a very limited way but had restarted fairly regularly (3 times a week) for about 3 months now until my doctor advised against activity.

can you suggest any asanas and pranayama that may be safe or ok. any books would be helpful too!

also, i live in mumbai, india so if there is any teacher or school affiliated with yours or a good teacher for prenatal yoga i would be grateful.

thank you so much
urja

Hi Urja

I am not very familiar with ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. So I am going to consult with someone that can perhaps give me more information.

I hope to get back to you soon with a helpful answer to your question.

Take care,

Deb

Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome
Any woman undergoing IVF procedure is at risk of developing Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS).

Symptoms related to OHSS can vary from mild to moderate to severe. The worst cases and symptoms are usually related to pregnancy. If your IVF cycle resulted in a pregnancy check with your MD to make sure the following recommendations are appropriate for you.

1- Dizziness with Positional Changes.
- Log roll out of bed and stay in transitional positions until dizziness subsides.
- Log roll – Turn completely to the side. Keep your hips and shoulders together as you roll.
- Place your bottom hand underneath your shoulder. Place your top hand in front of you at chest
level. Slowly raise your body as you lower your legs toward the floor. Sit for a couple of
seconds until dizziness subsides.

2- Shortness of breath – Practice deep diaphragmatic and yoga breathing.

3- Chest Pains
- Gentle massage of the chest muscles. Upstrokes toward the shoulder work great.
- Yoga poses that are chest openers are of great benefit here.

4- Calf Pains
- Stretch calf muscles – hold stretch for 30 seconds. Repeat 2-3 times. Yoga poses that open the calves and back of legs (down dog) are the most beneficial.

5- Light physical activity is ok but check with your MD. Strict bed rest should be avoided unless instructed to do so by your MD, as it could cause embolism.

6- Monitor fluid intake. Drink plenty of water unless MD has instructed otherwise. Urine should be pale yellow.

7- For lower abdominal pains – heating pad, preferably wet heat may help with discomfort. Apply heat for 10-15 minutes 2-3 times daily.

8- Be KIND and forgiving to yourself. Maintain a positive outlook and never give up hope.

9- Visualize yourself holding your future baby on a daily basis. This stimulates the hypothalamus and connects you to your future child on a spiritual level.

10 – To improve embryo implantation and to improve fertility get a Arvigo Mayan Uterine Abdominal Massage. This massage is key for fertility as helps keep the uterus in its optimal position, there is improved hemo-dynamics and homeostasis to support and enhance fertility. It has been estimated
that approximately 30% of women who have been unsuccessful in conceiving eventually conceive after a succession of MAM treatments. I’ve seen amazing results after I perform Mayan massage on women.
