The Mandarin Treehouse - Chinese classes for babies and children
We believe an early exposure to different languages and cultures will prepare our children for an increasingly global environment.
The mission is to infuse young children with the curiosity and enthusiasm to explore the Mandarin language and culture, and for older children, to instill confidence in expressing themselves in Mandarin, and to build the foundations for reading and writing. The learning environment is enriching and rigorous, as well as interactive and fun. The teaching philosophy is child-centered. Children are introduced to familiar age-appropriate concepts about themselves, their interactions with others and their surroundings. Activities are varied, spanning art, science, music, movement and gym, all conducted in Mandarin. Traditional lessons such as ìbihuaî (writing Chinese characters), Chinese dance and folklores and festival celebrations expand the childrenís knowledge about the Chinese culture.
We have a mix of Chinese, half-Chinese and non-Chinese children in the group. Mandarin is spoken 80% of class time to immerse the children in the language. Children are grouped by age and language abilities. We encourage parents to review the lessons with their children at home by providing practice reading and audio materials.
