Tip #7 - The Benefits of Strong ABS!
Moms-to-Be: While old fashion crunches and sit-ups are no longer an option at this time, there is no reason to abandon a toned tummy! By doing proper pregnancy abdominal exercises, you gain the coordination needed to effectively push your baby out as well as help prevent lower back pain and diastasis (the seperation of the abdominal recti).
Next time you are in class, be sure to grab the article "Pushing Power", it will fully explain all the benefits of a strong belly.
New Mammas: Don't jump right into an old routine of abdominal exercises. 90% of pregnant women develope diastasis, so it is important to focus on bringing those abdominal recti back together. You can continue to do the isometric ab exercises from prenatal and slowly add some more traditional exercises with a strong awareness of stabalizing the lower back.
By strengthening your belly muscles, you will help prevent back aches and improve your balance.
