Dr. Anna Rhee, MD

As a mother of three, Dr. Rhee has a special viewpoint on the needs of her obstetric patients: she believes strongly that women should make their own choices among the various styles of labor. Thus, she supports labor and birth in Roosevelt Hospital's Birthing Center, as a patient option in low-risk deliveries. Dr. Rhee joined the faculty of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center in 1998. From 1990 until 1998, she was in private practice here in New York City, and served as an attending physician at St. Vincent's Hospital and at Beth Israel Medical Center. She also found it rewarding to practice in a variety of clinics, including at a homeless shelter, the Chinatown Clinic, and a Korean clinic. Dr. Rhee is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and she is fluent in Spanish and Korean.

Dr. Katrina Bradley, MD, MPH

Upon Dr. Bradley’s graduation from the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt, she was awarded the department’s Best Study Award for her final research project, “Predictors of Embryo Defragmentation and Outcome Following Fragment Removal in In Vitro Fertilization.” During residency, she also contributed to research regarding fetal head position during labor; this work was published in the journal Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Additionally, her resident colleagues awarded her the 2003 David B. Crawford Prize for her professional integrity and teamwork. While in medical school, Dr. Bradley also earned from Tulane University a master of public health degree, which she pursued on academic scholarship. She is a junior fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Dr. Karen Playforth, MD

Dr. Playforth graduated with high distinction from the University of Kentucky Medical School, and for the following two years matriculated in the master’s degree program at the Mailman School of Public Health of Columbia University. She then completed residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center, after which she joined the faculty. Dr. Playforth has an interest in women’s issues that dates from her undergraduate years at Wellesley College. There, she earned a bachelor’s degree in peace studies, with a focus on the status of women in developing countries. As a medical student and as a graduate student in public health, Dr. Playforth assisted in research concerning women and pregnancy, first, studying adequacy of labor patterns, and later, examining maternal complications of infection. As a medical student, she received the Janet M. Glasgow Achievement Citation of the American Medical Women's Association, the McCauley Scholarship, and the Niemeier Memorial Scholarship. Dr. Playforth is board eligible in obstetrics and gynecology and is interested in all aspects of the specialty. She supports labor and delivery in Roosevelt Hospital’s special birthing center, as a patient option in low risk deliveries.
