PostNatal Fitness

I am interested in hiring a private PostNatal Fitness person and need help finding someone. Ideally, I would like this person to come to my building. I was wondering if anyone has a recommendation? Thanks, Kris

Smile Resource suggestions

Deb Even though some of the NY baby books list the following I think it's good to get resources from a person/establishment that you trust. I would suggest/like to see the following for the list: - babysitter's - fitness trainer - baby nurse - nanny (people may know of a good nanny looking for work) This of course would change due to availability. - classes (all types, birth, breastfeeding etc) if you are not offering it at the time the mother is needing it. - health tips for example the papaya enzymes for heartburn. - baby friendly restaurants throughout the city. - mommy and me activities I hope this helps. Corina

fitness trainer

of course, i think postnatal yoga is a wonderful way to get back in shape! that said, i would recommend Ilene Bergelson at a good postpartum fitness trainer. my friend marti used her and really liked her. ilene's # is 212 946 5333. hope that helps! deb

i was also thinking of adding a "rating system" where those that used the services can post an opinion and rating. what do you think? responding to Corina's comment, all the people on the "resource list" that we hand out at the studio have been personally recommended by students or by myself. thanks for the feedback everyone! deb

I think that ratings could be good depending on how used... i think that anyone who gives a rating should have to post a little blurb that goes along with it, so others can judge why the good/bad rating was given and whether they would agree. Anything that just tallies ratings without fuller explanation is more open to abuse/misinterpretation. my two cents. best, Katherine

Katherine, I'm pretty sure we could set things up to require people to comment when rating a certain resources.

until a more organized resource list is posted, you can look at the "links" page of the website. that has a lot of information of useful places and services for the new mom and mom-to-be. hopefully it will not be much longer until i get the rating system and categorized resource list up and running. keeping offering feedback! it really helps me know what direction to move. thanks deb

Resource: psychotherapist/couples counselor

Hi Deb, I love the new website and the community forum is a great idea... thanks! I wanted to offer myself as a resource. In my psychotherapy practice I have developed a specialty in new moms, going through postpartum depression or simply finding it challenging adjusting to their new life cycle phase (i.e. going from childless adult to parent). Along the same lines, I also specialize in couples counseling for those dealing with the challenges to the relationship that come with the transition from being simply partners to being co-parents. If you feel it is appropriate I hope you will list me as a resource for the community. If anyone feels uncomfortable seeing someone who attends the class (I come to Wednesday's post-partum class), I can refer anyone to a colleague who has the same specialty. Here is my professional contact information: Jillian Hollmann, LCSW (646) 288-6155 jphollmann@nyc.rr.com Office location: 84th & CPW Thanks so much!
