e left Brooklyn last Summer to move to Canada and want to help our fantastic nanny Carol to find a new position. She took care of our son Max from the time he was 12 weeks old until he turned 2. She is very passionate about her job and her responsibilities. She is definitely a professionnal nanny, not a babysitter. She helped raise our son instead of just watching him, and taught him limits and good manners. It is quite telling that one of his first words was "thank you". She encouraged him to be independent and he happily plays by himself.
When she started to work for us, she put Max on a schedule which meant spending hours holding him until he was ready to fall asleep in his crib. She fully supported my breastfeeding and pumping. She took him out for strolls, rain or shine. She immediately requested books so she could read to him and he developed a strong interest in them at a very young age. She taught him English (we are a French family) and basic sign language, and continuously interacted with him. He is now attending a Montessori daycare in Montreal and the teachers have told me several times how impressed they are with his language skills. As he grew, she organized day trips and play dates, and took him to classes.
She never missed a pediatrician visit and always asked very pertinent questions to the doctor. She helped us in our efforts to increase Max's calories intake (he was a very picky eater and we were concerned about his weight). She advised us on many subjects such as teething, babyproofing, feeding, etc. and even took my calls on the evenings when I had questions about Max.
Finally, she has a great personality and many people in the neighborhood have approached me spontaneously to tell me they had seen Max "so happy" "chatting away" with her. Carol is always in a sunny mood and she is a pleasure to be around, She is well-traveled, curious and open-minded. She is British, but holds a Green Card and can be paid on the books. She was always calm and playful -- even when Max was testing our patience. I know Max misses her as he often mentions her. We highly recommend her.
