She is a fabulous massage therapist who is incredibly skilled, especially in the sometimes-awkward art of massaging a pregnant woman. She knows all about where you need extra care, and what to avoid. And just generally, she has strong, sensitive hands that seem to know exactly what you need. I had a pain in my lower back for many months that no one could help, and then I went to Laurie who fixed it in 20 minutes. I call her my miracle lady. She's also just a lovely presence--nice, funny, and engaged. She'll talk to you if you want, but also will respond to your cues if you don't. I can't recommend her more highly!
I started seeing Laurie during my pregnancy. She was deeply knowledgeable and able to explain what was going on in my body. She was able to notice when things were out of alignment, and always able to help me think about other resources (e.g. chiropractor, acupuncturist) that might make a difference. It was the gift I gave to myself during the pregnancy. Now, I see her as well, even though I am no longer pregnant. It's the gift I give to myself as an exhausted mama! She has deep wisdom in her hands and I highly recommend her!
Let me just say, first and foremost, Laurie is AMAZING!!
This is my first pregnancy, and I came into it with some previous injuries to my knees, and hips so you could say I was a complicated client. I felt instantly comfortable with Laurie who, with thorough knowledge and experience with prenatal massage, did a detailed assessment which covered past and present pains I was having in different areas of my body. She tailors her massage to your needs, and always checks in to make sure things are feeling right. She has this amazing pillow situation which allows you, (if you are comfortable) to lay facing down while your baby and breasts are cradled safely and comfortably. Try it! Otherwise, you lie sideways or at an incline on your back. She is also extremely sensitive to personal preferences (how deep or soft you want her touch to be; how the environment feels right to you, i.e. temperature, music, etc.)
Don't be bashful when it comes to telling her your needs. Laurie wants to know and is interested in each person's unique pregnancy experience and has such a sense of humor about it all. And the massage itself, is simply perfect. I melt every time. It has been such a blessing to include her in my routine of pregnancy self care. I can't believe I am nearing the end of my pregnancy and won't have the excuse to see her all the time!!! Trust me, you won't be disappointed.
Massages with Laurie Dawson are an absolute must for pregnant women. She has an incredible amount of knowledge regarding the pregnant body, and she knows exactly where to touch, and where not to touch, during all months of your pregnancy. She is both professional and personal, making sure your experience is exactly what you need. Her table set-up is wonderful -- you can lie on your stomach in complete comfort as she works her magic. Be it aches and pains or stress, Laurie can make it go away.
I have received massages from/by Laurie Dawson BEFORE pregnancy, DURING pregnancy and AFTER pregnancy. She is really fantastic, understands the pains of the body, and gets it right. EVERY TIME!!! Before kids, I used to travel everywhere for work....I would always treat myself to a massage at the fancy five star hotel work was putting me up in....so I can honestly say, that Laurie's massages are the best IN THE ENTIRE WORLD. really.
I Can't Wait To Get Pregnant Again So I Can See Laurie Regularly!!!
I first came to Laurie when I was about seven or eight weeks pregnant. I was having horrible morning sickness... She put my body at such ease - it actually was the best thing next to popsicles! I continued through out the pregnancy and she really took care of me. The sessions are more than just a massage... For me, blocking a regular time (whether weekly, bi-weekly or monthly) was crucial. Her studio was a perfect place to focus on my body and my growing baby inside. I honestly believe that seeing her regularly was preventative to a lot of aches and pains. The most amazing thing (one of) about Laurie is her ability to listen - that mixed with her healing hands that just know exactly where to go at every stage of pregnancy. Towards the end, going to Laurie was something I couldn't wait for - I loved being able to lay on my stomach and relax! Kind of like jumping in a pool and feeling weightless at almost nine months!
I can't recommend Laurie enough - during a time where my body felt vulnerable she put me at perfect ease - she really focusses on being connected with what's going on with the mother's body... and she's so very experienced. She was great with post natal massages too - even helped me with a blocked milk duct that was very painful. I seriously look forward to my next pregnancy with Laurie!
A++++++++++++
PS - Yes, she does fill up but I always just made my appointment in studio before I left my session. There were times when she squeezed me in if I really needed a session - She truly was dedicated to me during my pregnancy and after. Great music and oils too and super clean..
